Volcanoes

We were learning about volcanoes and we had a small scale volcano for doing test on how they erupt. we put vinegar, baking powder and food coloring in the volcano and it started to flow over the top like lava. We learned that before lava is above the ground it is called magma . Volcanoes are formed by the plates under the earth putting pressure one each other until the ground moves up into a mountain or a volcano. There are more than 1500 active volcanoes in the world and 80 of them are under water. Hawaii was formed by 5 volcanoes but two of them are active. Lava can range form 1300 to 2200 degrees.

ARC workshop

We were learning about farming in the water. Salmon farming is hard work. When salmon farming the fish they have to start off in fresh water and then they can go in salt water after in sea water they have to stay there for 3 years. The fish are in this big circular pens with a net on top so the fish can not escape. Oyster farms are a lot easier because you just have to put a long rope or chain in the water and leave it for 2 years and then you can pick them. Mussel farming is much the same as oyster farming and you just have them in rows  with a rope floating on the water and then you can pick them after a while like the oysters. Everyone enjoyed learning about farming at sea and there a job for everyone . You need a farmer to look after the product and then a person in a office to sort out all the paper work and a person to deliver the product and a butcher to sort what you've brought and a lot more jobs. A lot of people in Ireland live by the sea so it is very important farms in the water and fishermen to provide us with all things we eat. A lot of are salmon know come from fish farms and the real name for fish farming or farming at sea is called aquaculture.
